Data backup

Summary

The process of copying and storing data so it can be restored after loss or corruption.

Description

Protects businesses from data loss due to hardware failure, human error, or cyberattacks. Strong backup strategies use automation, offsite or cloud copies, and regular recovery testing.

Follow the 3-2-1 rule: 3 copies of data on 2 different media, with 1 copy held off-site.

Also consider implementing zero trust principles such as "never trust, always verify", and the Principle of Least Privilege, which grants users the minimum access requirements only to complete their role.
