About the role

We are looking for a driven and proactive individual to take on the permanent position of Lead Software Engineer - Data.
This is a key role within the System Engineering team, focusing on building on our proprietary data platform that support our fibre products' lifecycle, utilising cutting-edge industry tech.

Reporting to: Head of Systems Engineering

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Head of Systems Engineering, CIO, and Product Management teams to design and implement a scalable, reliable, and high-performance data platform that meets the needs of the organization
  • Lead a team of software engineers to deliver high-quality software on time and within budget
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists and product managers, to ensure that the platform meets the needs of the organization
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends related to data platforms and related technologies, including LLM APIs.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for the platform and related tools and processes
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers on the team
  • Ensure that the platform is secure, stable, and able to handle large amounts of real-time data

Skills & Experience:

The right candidate

  • Has experience from infrastructure to data management approaches, including SaaS/PaaS offerings in the space from startup to enterprise scale.
  • Has experience with building microservices and APIs in containerised environments
  • Agrees that engineers should own their product's entire life cycle - no "over the wall" deployment mentality here!
  • Just as comfortable building prototypes, internal tools, microservices, and APIs
  • Is an expert in one of Python or Typescript with exposure to many other languages
  • Understands the difference between a data lake and a data warehouse

Bonus Points

  • You have used GraphQL
  • You have used Neo4j or a similar graph database
  • You can explain Event Driven Architecture
  • You have some exposure to Containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, IaaC tooling, and Public Cloud platforms
  • Your primary language of choice is Typescript, PHP, Python, or Go
